Family Drama Erupts After Nigerian Man Returns From UK And Stops Paying Brother’s Children’s School Fees

A UK-based Nigerian man has narrated how his friend’s relationship with his elder brother reportedly deteriorated after he returned to Nigeria following four years in the United Kingdom.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the man shared the story in a TikTok post by a user identified as @reddflag007, explaining that his friend had travelled to the UK on a student visa and later obtained a post-study visa. However, after failing to secure a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS), he decided to return to Nigeria rather than remain in the country without legal status.

The narrator said his friend returned home with about $15,000 after spending four years in the UK. While living abroad, he had reportedly taken on significant financial responsibilities for his family, including paying the school fees of his elder brother’s two children.

He also reportedly contributed to the completion of the family house and handled its interior work before eventually returning to Nigeria.

According to the narrator, the situation changed after his friend returned home and could no longer continue covering the children’s school fees because he was struggling to rebuild his own life financially.

“He was paying his brother’s children’s school fees. The family house wasn’t completely built, so he finished it and did all the interior. When he came back to Nigeria, he couldn’t continue paying because he was also struggling to get back on his feet,” he explained.

The narrator alleged that the elder brother became upset when the financial support stopped and accused his younger brother of spending money on family members instead of concentrating on establishing himself while he was in the UK.

He further claimed that his friend had previously made it clear to his brother that he was the one responsible for paying the children’s school fees while he was abroad, but their relationship reportedly became strained after he could no longer maintain the payments.

The story has generated discussions online about the challenges faced by Nigerians in the diaspora who provide financial support to relatives while also trying to secure their own future.

The narrator advised people supporting family members financially to understand their limits and avoid taking on responsibilities beyond their means, noting that sacrifices made for relatives may not always be appreciated when circumstances change.
