Fashola Explodes: ‘It’s A Big Lie!’ – Breaks Silence On Alleged Anti-Tinubu Coalition
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise programme on Saturday, Fashola said the recent formation of a political coalition by opposition figures strongly contradicts such speculation.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The former Minister of Power, Works and Housing emphasized that the coalition marks a much-needed resurgence of opposition forces that have been largely inactive in recent years.
“There’s a lot to consider about these developments,” Fashola remarked. “First, it clearly debunks the widespread claim from a few weeks ago that Nigeria is headed toward becoming a one-party state. The emergence of this coalition, regardless of its composition, proves the presence of an opposition—one that may be waking up after a long period of dormancy.”
He also noted that the opposition had, for the most part, failed to fulfill its role in the last two years, but the current political movement could revive democratic engagement.
Fashola added that while he respects the right to free association and political choice, the real test lies in whether the coalition can deliver a convincing and well-defined alternative to Nigerians.
“The second point is that this shows people are exercising their freedom of choice, and I respect that. But beyond the rhetoric of wanting to reshape Nigeria, we need to ask—what’s the compelling message? Where is the manifesto? What are the action plans? Until we see those, it’s hard to determine how persuasive or impactful the coalition might be,” he explained.
Notably, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been adopted as the platform by several opposition heavyweights for the 2027 presidential election. Those backing the move reportedly include Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP); Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP); and Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State.
