In a recent ruling by Justice Christopher Oba at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo, Abuja, Senator Benson Konbowei of Bayelsa Central has been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre. This decision stems from allegations of forgery regarding the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) exemption certificate attributed to the lawmaker.

Senator Konbowei, who pleaded not guilty to the charges on March 26, faced arraignment following accusations of fraudulent activity related to a document titled ‘Certificate of Exemption’ bearing number 000256454 and dated July 4, 2008. The charges, marked CR/028/2023, were brought forth by the Inspector General of Police, citing violations of Sections 366,156, and 158 of the Penal Code Act CAP 532 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990.

Despite being granted bail in the sum of N50 million, the court ruled that Senator Konbowei should remain in custody at the Kuje Correctional Centre until the bail conditions are met.
