The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has raised an alert following the identification of two suspected cases of Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria’s North-East region.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the public health agency confirmed the development in an official update released on Saturday, disclosing that samples had been collected from the two isolated patients and forwarded to a laboratory for testing to establish whether they were infected with the virus.

In response to the situation, the NCDC said rapid response teams had been deployed to the affected states to carry out contact tracing and implement necessary containment measures aimed at preventing possible community transmission.

The agency urged Nigerians to remain calm while taking precautionary measures to protect themselves and their communities. It advised the public to maintain proper personal hygiene, avoid contact with bushmeat and promptly report symptoms such as fever, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding to the nearest health facility.

The NCDC also disclosed that it was working closely with state governments and international health partners to manage the situation and strengthen public health surveillance.

It assured Nigerians that further information would be made available once the laboratory results from the suspected cases had been concluded.

However, the agency has yet to confirm whether the two patients tested positive for Ebola, stressing the importance of awaiting the outcome of the laboratory investigations.
