Dr. Alake made these remarks while receiving a delegation from the Miners Association of Nigeria, led by its National President, Mr. Dele Ayanleke.
The delegation also included representatives from the VUKA group, co-organizers of the upcoming Nigeria Mining Week, and PriceWaterhouseCoopers, a leading accounting firm.
In a statement issued by the Ministry’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Mr. Alaba Balogun, Dr. Alake commended the Association for their valuable recommendations and their consistent role in organizing the Mining Week.
He emphasized that Nigeria had been overly reliant on its mono-cultural oil economy for an extended period, highlighting the necessity of diversifying into the solid minerals sector.
He stated, “Our vision is to make solid minerals a source of pride, a major contributor to Nigeria’s gross domestic product. We are transitioning from oil to explore this sector for Nigeria’s sustainability. This is our contribution to addressing climate change.”
Furthermore, the Minister emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to formulating policies that would improve and streamline the regulatory framework, making it more conducive for both local and foreign investors to participate in the solid minerals sector.
