Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti has revealed that he was upfront with his first wife, Funke Kuti, about his views on relationships before they got married.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the 64-year-old musician made the revelation during an interview with Channels Television, where he discussed his first marriage and his approach to relationships.

Femi Kuti said he had told Funke before their marriage that he loved women and did not believe he could remain faithful to just one woman. He explained that he made his position clear to her before they decided to get married.

The Grammy-nominated musician also disclosed that one of the reasons he entered the marriage was to ensure that his children could obtain British passports.

“I told my first wife before we got married that I love women and could never be faithful to just one woman. I only married her so my children could get a British passport,” he said.

Femi and Funke Kuti had one child together, Omorinmade Kuti, popularly known as Made Kuti, who was born in 1995. Their marriage eventually ended in divorce after several years.

The veteran musician has continued to speak openly about his personal life and his views on relationships, family and society.

In another recent discussion, Femi Kuti also offered his perspective on Nigeria’s challenges, arguing that President Bola Tinubu is not necessarily the country’s biggest problem. He instead identified the judiciary as a major issue affecting the nation.
