FG Assures Northern States Of Power Restoration In Three DaysThe Federal Government has announced its intention to restore electricity to Northern Nigeria within the next 72 hours. On October 22, the Transmission Company of Nigeria reported a power outage affecting the North-East, North-West, and parts of North-Central regions due to the failure of the 330-kilovolt (kV) Ugwaji-Apir double circuit transmission lines 1 and 2. In response to the situation, President Bola Tinubu has ordered the military to secure the power lines while repair work is underway.
During a session in Abuja on October 29 with the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (APGA, Abia South), Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu addressed the ongoing outage affecting the northern region.
Adelabu stated that, as a temporary measure, power would be redirected through the Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line, which will restore service to approximately 80% of the affected areas.
āPower will be restored to the North in two to three days. We will utilize the Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line temporarily,ā Adelabu confirmed.
He also assured the committee that once full access to the damaged lines is achieved, repairs would be conducted, aiming for complete restoration of power within the next 14 days
