This warning comes in the wake of the recent arrest of five individuals who obstructed Raymond Njoku Road in Ikoyi for a birthday party, causing traffic disruptions and creating a public nuisance. Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, revealed details of the arrests via his X (formerly Twitter) account, noting that those detained included the birthday celebrant, the event planner, a musician, a sound engineer, and a vendor.
“The suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with state laws. Lagos will not tolerate any disregard for regulations,” Wahab stated.
Raheem Gbadeyan, the Task Force spokesperson, reiterated on Tuesday that offenders would face prosecution. Additionally, Adetayo Akerele, the agency’s Chairman, condemned the rising trend of road parties, stating, “It is unacceptable for individuals or groups to use public roads for personal events, thereby inconveniencing others and compromising public safety.” He pointed to specific areas in the city, such as Lawani Street in Yaba and Ganiyu Lamina Street in Ijaye Ojokoro, where such gatherings have disrupted public order.
The Task Force is encouraging residents to utilize designated event centers and has launched a “See Something, Say Something” initiative to empower citizens to report any road obstructions. The agency plans to collaborate with other security organizations to monitor compliance and maintain public order, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic throughout Lagos
