The federal government’s committee has reached a consensus on the consequential salary adjustments tied to the recently approved ₦70,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

A source familiar with the committee’s proceedings informed Naija News on Friday that the committee has selected a specific approach for adjusting salaries in line with the new minimum wage.

Last Thursday, the federal government inaugurated a 16-member committee to address issues related to the National Minimum Wage Act, 2024. The committee, led by Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of Service of the Federation, was tasked with ensuring a fair and equitable salary structure for federal civil servants.

According to Walson-Jack, “It is essential to adjust the salaries of other staff categories, considering the ripple effects of the new minimum wage.” She further explained that the committee consists of eight members representing the federal government and eight from the trade unions.

The committee’s primary responsibility is to create a template for salary adjustments across various staff categories, following the increase in the national minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.

The agreement marks a significant step towards the full implementation of the National Minimum Wage Act, 2024, ensuring that the salaries of federal workers are fairly adjusted in line with the new wage structure.
