FG Reaffirms Commitment To Regional Growth As Abubakar Momoh Declares SEDC–UNDP Roundtable Open

The Honourable Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh FNSE, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering commitment to inclusive regional development, declaring open a high-level roundtable jointly convened by the South East Development Commission (SEDC) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Abuja.

Held at the Transcorp Hilton, the roundtable themed “Rebuilding Legacy: Co-Creating a New Era of Growth in the South East” brought together development partners, government stakeholders, and policy influencers to chart a new course for transformation in the region.

Welcoming participants, Momoh commended the organisers, especially the SEDC, which he noted is led by the youngest among the heads of the regional development commissions, for demonstrating clarity of purpose and sustained dedication. He stated that the event was not merely a talkshop, but a launchpad for action, one aimed at galvanizing support around pressing regional issues.

“The theme of today’s event is bold and timely. It aligns fully with the vision of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and key priorities of the Renewed Hope Agenda — including inclusive economic growth, infrastructure expansion, human capital investment, and effective governance,” he said.

He highlighted that the Ministry, under his leadership, is focused on building partnerships that translate policy into measurable grassroots impact. According to him, the South East region—rich in talent and enterprise—deserves targeted attention to address persistent challenges such as youth unemployment, infrastructure deficits, and the need for industrial revitalization.

While praising the consistent contributions of development partners, Momoh stressed that true transformation would only be achieved through synergy, innovation, and accountability.

“As we look ahead, we must ensure that our efforts remain inclusive—leaving no one behind, especially our women, youth, and vulnerable communities,” he added.

On behalf of President Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Regional Development, the Minister assured stakeholders of continued federal support for frameworks that deliver policy coherence, transparent reporting, and sustainable results.

The event marks a major step in deepening collaboration between the Regional Development Commissions and international development partners, with the South East Commission setting the pace in strategic regional engagement.
