FG Urges Nigerians To Avoid Negative Comments About The CountryThe Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has urged Nigerians to refrain from making negative comments about Nigeria.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Idris made this statement during the official launch of the Nigeria Reputation Management Group (NMRG) at an event organized by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in Abuja on October 15.
He emphasized that a robust national brand would attract talent, tourists, and investors, thereby enhancing the country’s strength and enabling it to garner even more positive attention.
Conversely, he noted that a weak national brand could hinder opportunities for securing foreign direct investments, especially if Nigerians continued to voice negative opinions about the country.
“This brings me to how Nigerians speak about their nation. We are actively seeking foreign direct investments to come into our land, yet we often hastily express sentiments that could drive away investors and those who wish to associate with us. We must strike a balance, particularly in the media, by ensuring accurate, objective reporting that embodies a sense of patriotism. I have always maintained that it is impossible to promote your country negatively while ignoring its positives. Therefore, we must consistently present our national image in a favorable light.
A strong national reputation attracts talent, tourists, and investors, which will further bolster the country. Conversely, a weak national brand discourages investments and talent, depriving the nation of the resources it needs for development,” he stated.
