Final Goodbye: Olu Jacobs Buried In Lagos As Family, Stars And Dignitaries Gather

Veteran Nigerian actor Olu Jacobs has been laid to rest in Lagos following a funeral service attended by members of his family, friends, colleagues and prominent figures from the entertainment industry and public life.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the actor was buried on Friday after a funeral service held at This Present House Church on Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos.

The ceremony attracted several notable personalities who gathered to honour Jacobs and celebrate his decades-long contribution to the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Among those in attendance were Lagos State Deputy Governor Oba Femi Hamzat, Lagos State First Lady Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and former Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Jacobs died on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife, veteran actress Joke Sylva, and their two sons.

His burial came two days after a Night of Tributes and Service of Songs held at Glover Memorial Hall on Lagos Island on Wednesday. The event provided an opportunity for colleagues, friends and admirers to celebrate the life and career of the late acting icon.

Several prominent Nollywood figures attended the tribute ceremony, including Richard Mofe-Damijo, Sola Sobowale, Funke Akindele, Jide Kosoko, Adebayo Salami, Kate Henshaw, Hilda Dokubo, Segun Arinze, Rita Dominic, Emeka Ike, Femi Adebayo, Saka, Desmond Elliot, Ejike Asiegbu, Keppy Ekpenyong and Norbert Young.

Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, was also among those who attended the tribute event.

The ceremonies provided an opportunity for members of the Nigerian entertainment community and other admirers to pay their final respects to Jacobs, whose career spanned several decades across theatre, television and film.
