The command’s spokesperson, Olusola Ayanlade, disclosed the development in Akure on Wednesday, following a coordinated dawn operation that combined tactical police units with local intelligence support.

Ayanlade explained that the operation was launched at first light after a kidnap alert from the victims’ farm hut along the Ondo–Ekiti border at Odeigede Camp.

“The operation commenced around 5:30 a.m. today, November 26, 2025, following a distress call reporting the abduction of Mr. David and his wife, residents of Akure, in their border-axis farm hut,” he said.

The Commissioner of Police immediately ordered full deployment of all operational assets to ensure the safe recovery of the victims.

Officers from the Iju–Itaogbolu Division and the State Anti-Kidnapping Squad, alongside local youth volunteers, advanced on foot through challenging forest terrain. The sustained pressure eventually forced the kidnappers to flee.

“As the combined team pressed in, the kidnappers abandoned the victims and escaped,” Ayanlade confirmed.

The male victim sustained machete cuts but, along with his wife, managed to evade further harm before rescue teams reached them. The injured couple was later evacuated by police. During a mop-up sweep, one suspect was apprehended inside a hut, and items recovered included a mobile phone, a sword, and a broken bottle.

The recovered items have been secured for forensic and intelligence analysis, with the mobile device identified as a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 belonging to the suspect.

The suspect is cooperating with investigators, providing leads on other fleeing accomplices, while investigations continue.

“The suspect has been assisting investigators, giving valuable information to help track down remaining collaborators,” the police added.

All seized items have been handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Squad for detailed examination and tracing.
