Speaking at the Plateau Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival in Jos, Plateau State, Gowon highlighted the escalating insecurity in the country, calling for prayers that Nigeria would not experience another period of conflict.
āAll the various crises we are experiencing in Nigeria are deeply disturbing. After the Civil War, this is something we should not be facing,ā Gowon said. āI have prayed to God that Nigeria will never go through another crisis like that again. Let us continue praying that we are nearing the end of these troubles and that God will touch the hearts of those responsible for creating conflict.ā
Gowonās remarks reflect growing concerns over the countryās security challenges, as Nigerians continue to grapple with widespread unrest in several regions.
