Fresh 2027 Speculation: Obidient Movement Insists Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Remains Strong

The OK Movement and the Obidient Movement have dismissed reports of a rift between the two groups, reaffirming their commitment to working together ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The groups restated their support for a political alliance involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso following a strategic meeting attended by their national and diaspora leaders.

At the meeting, the groups agreed to strengthen their collaboration, improve grassroots mobilisation and coordinate their activities at the polling-unit level in a bid to present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.

They also praised Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and former Kano State Governor Kwankwaso, describing both politicians as patriotic Nigerians whose commitment to national development continues to inspire supporters across the country and in the diaspora.

Speaking at the meeting, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr Yunusa Tanko, urged support groups and grassroots structures to remain united and focused on their shared objective of building a better Nigeria.

Tanko warned supporters against actions capable of creating divisions within the movement, stressing the importance of cooperation and collective effort.

The National Convener of the OK Movement, Hon. Jackie Wayas, explained that the organisation was established as a unifying platform to support and promote the Obi-Kwankwaso alliance ahead of the 2027 election.

According to Wayas, the movement is also designed to strengthen coordination among various support groups and expand its reach to Nigerians advocating good governance and national development.

She stressed that the OK Movement was not created to replace, compete with or undermine either the Obidient Movement or the Kwankwasiyya structure.

Wayas further disclosed that participants at the meeting agreed that the leadership structure of the OK Movement should be constituted with the active involvement of leaders and members of both the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements.

She said the arrangement was intended to promote inclusiveness, balance and collective ownership.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both groups resolved to continue working together based on unity, mutual respect and cooperation.

They also agreed to strengthen coordination among legitimate support groups and promote peaceful, issue-based political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Groups Warn Against Unauthorised Publications

The two movements also issued a public advisory urging Nigerians to disregard what they described as misleading narratives and unauthorised publications concerning their activities.

They specifically rejected reports claiming that the OK Movement had become the new Obidient Movement, describing such narratives as attempts to create divisions among their supporters.

The groups also cautioned against unauthorised campaign materials and publications purportedly presenting themselves as official resolutions or decisions of the OK Movement.

They urged supporters and members of the public to rely exclusively on official statements issued by their recognised national and diaspora leadership.

Reaffirming their commitment to democratic engagement, the groups said unity remained their greatest strength and pledged to continue working together towards a peaceful electoral process and the emergence of competent, accountable and people-oriented leadership in Nigeria.
