Calm is gradually returning to South Africa following Tuesday’s nationwide protests, which disrupted economic activities and forced the temporary closure of businesses, shopping malls and commercial centres across several parts of the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Although the demonstrations have largely subsided, reports indicate that some protesters engaged in looting, breaking into shops and supermarkets and making away with goods and other valuables.

Many of the affected businesses were reportedly owned by foreign nationals, who were said to be among the primary targets of the attacks.

However, there have been no confirmed reports indicating that businesses owned by Nigerians were affected during the unrest.

FG plans another evacuation

Meanwhile, the Federal Government has finalised plans to evacuate another batch of more than 200 stranded Nigerians from South Africa later this week.

The move is part of ongoing efforts to assist Nigerian citizens affected by the unrest and facilitate their safe return home.

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienta, confirmed that arrangements for the evacuation had been concluded but said the exact departure date had yet to be officially announced.

Also confirming the development, the President of the Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa, Rev. Frank Onyekwelu, disclosed that another evacuation flight had been scheduled.

According to him, more than 200 Nigerians are expected to be airlifted back to the country on Thursday.
