Reports reveal that Chukwuma, who recently resigned from the APC due to concerns over the irregularities in its primary process, secured the YPP ticket after a consensus vote by 374 delegates at the party’s primary in Awka on Thursday.
The election, which utilized the Option A4 voting method, was overseen by Vidieno Bamayi, the party’s National Secretary and Chairman of the Election Committee. Bamayi confirmed that the primary was conducted smoothly and in full compliance with both the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
Despite Chukwuma being the only aspirant, Bamayi emphasized that the vote was held to ensure the integrity of the process, as required by the party’s guidelines. “Even though Chukwuma was the sole aspirant, the voting was conducted according to the party’s constitution,” he said.
When the results were announced, Chukwuma received 366 ‘yes’ votes, with eight delegates voting ‘no,’ officially declaring him the winner of the primary.
In his acceptance speech, Chukwuma thanked the party and its members, reiterating his commitment to YPP’s core values. He stressed that the YPP is a disciplined party and vowed to bring about significant change in Anambra State.
“I stand as a candidate who understands what it takes for this election. YPP is making a new change today. Remember, YPP ranks among the top three political parties in Anambra,” Chukwuma said.
Chukwuma also reaffirmed his support for President Bola Tinubu, particularly in advancing the Hope Agenda, and expressed his vision for connecting Anambra to the central government.
“With your support and God’s grace, we will make it to the Government House in Awka. I am in YPP to ensure that Anambra State is represented at the heart of the government. It is there that we will secure the opportunities needed to uplift our state,” he added.
