Ejiofor condemned what he described as a prioritization of social media presence over legal strategy, noting that some consultants encouraged Kanu to represent himself in court despite explicit judicial warnings. He stated that misleading public updates, theatrical courtroom behavior, and poor management undermined what could have been a preventable outcome. Ejiofor called for a professional reassessment and disciplined legal approach for any future efforts to secure Kanu’s release.

Kanu’s wife, Uchechi Okwu-Kanu, criticized the legal team for failing to notify her of her husband’s transfer to a correctional facility in Sokoto, saying she only learned of it after his arrival and decried the lawyers’ use of social media to announce the transfer. Meanwhile, Abia State Governor Alex Otti assured that efforts to secure Kanu’s freedom would continue through diplomatic and dialogue-driven measures.
