Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, made this announcement during the inauguration of the 11.1-kilometre Obehie-Umudobia-Owaza road construction project, emphasizing its significance in unlocking the region’s economic potential.
Speaking at the event, Otti noted that the road project is more than just improving access—it is a strategic effort to revive economic assets, create new opportunities, and restore past aspirations. He stressed that the initiative is not just about infrastructure but also about revitalizing untapped economic resources and reigniting the ambitions that once defined the area.
The governor assured that the road would be completed within a year and would significantly enhance AIIP’s marketability and economic viability.
Furthermore, Otti confirmed that the Federal Government had officially sanctioned a modular refinery to be built within AIIP.
“I am delighted to announce that just a few days ago, we received approval for a modular refinery to be established inside AIIP by H.I.S. Refinery and Petrochemical Company Limited,” Otti revealed.
He reassured the people that the Abia State Government would provide full support for the refinery, which is expected to fast-track industrialization and economic development in the region.
Declaring an end to the era of neglect for Ukwa people, Otti emphasized that as Abia’s only oil-producing region, Ukwa must no longer be left behind.
“Today, we make it clear that the days of neglect for Ukwa and its communities are over. Your land will yield its best, and the oil in your land will bring prosperity,” the governor asserted.
He pledged to work closely with ASOPADEC, NDDC, and other intervention agencies to address the long-standing challenges of political marginalization and underdevelopment.
In response to community demands, Otti also confirmed that the Umuzike-Obokwe-Ngwaiyiekwe road has been included in the 2025 budget and will soon be inaugurated.
