This represents a 16.42% decline compared to May’s figure of 1.77 billion litres.
According to the Director of Public Affairs at NMDPRA, George Ene-Ita, daily fuel consumption in June averaged 48 million litres—correcting earlier reports that had placed the figure at 38.94 million litres.
Official data showed that the exact volume of fuel evacuated in June was 1,440,768,129 litres, down by over 290 million litres from May. The daily average of 48,025,604 litres was calculated based on the 30 days in June.
Breakdown of Fuel Supply and Distribution
-
Diesel (AGO): Diesel supply rose slightly by 1.73% to 432.18 million litres in June, up from 424.83 million litres in May. However, distribution (truck-out) plunged by 23.23%, dropping from 552.35 million litres in May to 424.06 million litres in June.
-
Household Kerosene (HHK): Both supply and distribution fell by 13%, with total supply dropping from nearly 9 million litres in May to 7.79 million litres in June.
-
Petrol (PMS): The sharpest drop was recorded in petrol supply, which fell by nearly 48%, from 72.36 million litres in May to 37.66 million litres in June. Distribution also decreased by 16.54% within the same period.
Fuel Distribution by State (June 2025)
-
Lagos: 205.66 million litres
-
Ogun: 88.69 million litres
-
FCT: 77.51 million litres
-
Oyo: 72.81 million litres
The NMDPRA noted that the overall decline in fuel supply and distribution reflects persistent challenges in the petroleum midstream and downstream sectors, which continue to impact national consumption patterns.
The authority has, however, pledged to work closely with industry stakeholders to strengthen distribution networks, ensure uninterrupted petroleum supply nationwide, and enhance stability in the sector moving forward.
