IPMAN President, Abubakar Maigandi, stated that while members are open to buying fuel from Dangote, they have not yet been informed of the refinery’s pricing for petrol.
“We are set to meet with Dangote Refinery to discuss this, and there’s no reason for us to avoid their products, especially if they offer a better price,” Maigandi said.
He further explained, “After a meeting with our members today (Thursday), we are ready to buy petrol from Dangote Refinery, provided the price is not higher than what we currently pay.”
Maigandi highlighted that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), as the sole importer, currently sells petrol to them at an average price of N875 per liter, while at the depot, they buy at N990 per liter. As marketers, their aim is to source the product where it’s more affordable.
He added, “In a letter from Dangote, it was mentioned that PMS is ready, but no price was stated. If Dangote Refinery offers cheaper petrol, there’s no way marketers would boycott it. We have no issues with Dangote Refinery.”
This statement was in response to claims made by Edwin Devakumar, Vice President of Dangote Industries Limited, who accused local petroleum marketers of avoiding Dangote’s petrol despite its competitive pricing. Devakumar had mentioned during a session organized by Nairametrics that only 3% of local marketers were showing interest in their petrol.
