On Monday, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, inaugurated a 305-member National Campaign Council for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State, scheduled for November 16. The council will be led by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, with Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris serving as Deputy Chairman 1 and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu as Deputy Chairman 2. Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege will act as the council’s secretary.
During the inauguration held at The Dome in Akure, Ganduje emphasized the party’s commitment to winning all six states in the region. He highlighted the importance of supporting President Bola Tinubu, who hails from the Southwest, by building strong APC support to secure electoral victories.
Ganduje noted the necessity for collaboration between the national campaign council and the Ondo State campaign council to achieve their objectives. “The national campaign council will create a robust synergy with the governor’s campaign council to ensure success,” he stated. He praised the president’s economic reforms and expressed confidence that Ondo State would help retain APC’s position through democratic processes.
Sanwo-Olu, in his address, underscored the council’s focus on issue-based campaigning and thanked the president for establishing the council. He expressed confidence in the party’s candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stating, “Come November 16, we will celebrate our victory.”
Aiyedatiwa, who is also the current Governor of Ondo State, described the formation of the campaign council as a significant boost for the party’s winning strategy. He asserted that the APC possesses the qualities necessary for victory that other parties lack, including unity, vision, and a genuine commitment to the people’s welfare.
