The victorious outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Edo State governorship primary election, in which Dennis Idahosa emerged as the winner, has garnered praise from the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje. Idahosa secured 40,483 votes during the Saturday election, officially becoming the APC candidate for the upcoming September 21 governorship election in the state. Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, who chaired the APC primary election committee, announced Idahosa as the winner, emphasizing that he had the highest vote count among the nine aspirants.

Abdullahi Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, released a statement on Saturday conveying Ganduje’s congratulatory message to Idahosa. Despite a parallel election where Senator Monday Okpebholo was declared the winner by the State Returning Officer, Ogbuaja Uzoamaka, in Benin, Ganduje described Idahosa as the people’s choice. The APC national chairman urged Idahosa to foster unity among the aspirants, emphasizing the importance of a united front as they prepare for the governorship election.

Ganduje expressed appreciation for the transparency exhibited by Governor Hope Uzodimma’s Primary Election Committee, commending their hard work in conducting the election. In his statement, Ganduje stated, “I want to congratulate the winner of the Edo State governorship election, I want to equally commend and appreciate Governor Hope Uzodimma’s election committee for their hard work and the transparent manner in which the primary election was conducted.” He called on all aspirants to set aside differences and work together for the party’s interest, assuring party stakeholders that every effort would be made to secure victory for the APC in Edo State.
