God Is Not Confused” — Adeboye Reacts To Viral AFCON Prophecies
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stirred fresh discussion on prophecy and spiritual discernment following remarks he made about a controversial prediction linked to Nigeria’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at a recent programme held at the RCCG Redemption City, Adeboye urged Christians to exercise caution and wisdom when reacting to prophetic declarations, warning against what he described as an increasing trend of sensational or questionable prophecies.
Although he did not mention any individual by name, Adeboye referenced a prophecy that circulated ahead of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco. The prophecy reportedly claimed that Nigeria would only succeed if Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman was excluded from the squad.
The prediction gained significant traction on social media, with many interpreting it as a sign of potential failure should the Atalanta forward be selected. However, events on the field appeared to contradict the claim.
Lookman scored the decisive goal in Nigeria’s 2–1 opening victory over Tanzania and later delivered an impressive performance against Tunisia, scoring once and providing two assists in a thrilling 3–2 win that secured the Super Eagles’ qualification for the knockout stage.
Recounting the episode, Adeboye told his congregation that he found the prophecy amusing.
“I was laughing when I read that a prophet said if we wanted to win a match, a particular player must not be selected, and they ignored him, and the same player scored the winning goal. I just said, glory be to God,” he said.
While acknowledging the place of genuine prophecy in the Christian faith, the RCCG leader stressed the importance of discernment, cautioning believers against accepting every spiritual claim as divinely inspired.
Using biblical references, Adeboye noted that true breakthroughs come through authentic divine guidance rather than dramatic or attention-grabbing pronouncements. He advised Christians to be careful in how they respond to prophets genuinely sent by God, clarifying that his remarks were not targeted at any individual.
Adeboye also took the opportunity to clarify his own role, distancing himself from the title of prophet.
“I am not a prophet; I am a pastor. It is only that once in a while, God speaks to me,” he said, adding that he believed the message shared would leave a lasting impression on his listeners.
