Gombe LG Engages Residents To Compile 2025 Budget PrioritiesIn a move to promote inclusive governance, Mohammed Danladi, Chairman of Akko Local Government Area in Gombe State, has initiated the collection of residents’ demands for the 2025 budget. This process began during a town hall consultative meeting on Thursday, which brought together representatives from all 11 wards and three Emirates in the LGA.

The meeting provided a platform for various groups, including people with disabilities, youth, women’s organizations, traditional and religious leaders, and NGOs, to contribute their input into the budget. Participants also reviewed the performance of the current year’s budget and gathered community feedback through the Citizens Charter Demand.

Comrade Idris Lawanti, Chairman of the Association of Non-Governmental Organizations in Gombe State, praised the local government’s efforts to encourage citizen participation but expressed concern about the lack of enthusiasm among residents in voicing their needs.

Lawanti acknowledged the role of the USAID-backed State-to-State initiative in advocating for a citizen-centered budget and urged residents to actively monitor the implementation of budgeted projects.

Mohammed Adamu, Director of Budget at the Gombe Ministry of Budget and Planning, emphasized that the state has embraced global standards for citizen-centered budgeting, assuring support for the local government’s efforts.

Hajiya Zariyatu Abubakar, Local Government Manager for the USAID State-to-State initiative, highlighted the focus on education, health, and water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), encouraging women, youth, and people with disabilities to articulate their demands for inclusion in the budget.

Chairman Danladi assured that all inputs would be recorded and implemented to foster growth and development in Akko LGA. Stakeholders expressed their appreciation for the initiative, with Aisha Mohammed from the women’s group stating, “It is a welcome development. We are happy to be part of the budget process.” Youth leader Ibrahim Abubakar added, “We will ensure that our demands are implemented.
