Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has commissioned the 6.475-kilometre Amanyam-Mbiaso Road in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, describing the project as part of his administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure and the living conditions of residents.

The road was commissioned on Thursday at Amanyam as part of activities marking the 39th anniversary of the creation of Akwa Ibom State. The project is expected to improve connectivity and access for residents and businesses across several communities in the area.

Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Eno said his administration remained focused on development projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to citizens rather than engaging in unnecessary political arguments.

According to the governor, the various projects being implemented across the state are designed to improve living conditions and promote development in communities.

Eno also announced plans for additional projects in the area, including the Ikot Ekpene International Market, Compassionate Homes, primary healthcare centres and other road projects.

The governor commended the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, Aniefiok Nkom, for his efforts to execute projects aimed at addressing the needs of residents. He also praised local government chairmen across the state for undertaking development initiatives, saying such projects demonstrate the benefits of local government autonomy.

Providing details of the newly completed road, Commissioner for Works Eno Ibanga said the Amanyam-Mbiaso Road is a 6.475-kilometre single-carriageway with an eight-metre width.

He added that the road features 12.95 kilometres of side drains and serves as an important development corridor connecting communities including Amanyam, Ifuho, Ibong, Ikot Udoe and Mbiaso.

Ibanga said the project was subjected to proper supervision to ensure that it met the required standards and would remain durable for years to come.

In his remarks, Nkom expressed appreciation to Governor Eno for the projects being executed in Ikot Ekpene, particularly the international market, hospital project and road infrastructure.

The council chairman disclosed that four additional projects were lined up for commissioning in Ikot Ekpene, expressing satisfaction with the level of development taking place in the area.

The commissioning marks another addition to the infrastructure projects being delivered by the Akwa Ibom State Government as the administration continues to emphasise road connectivity and community development.
