Gov Radda Sanctions ₦20 Million Per LGA To Revamp Graveyards In Katsina

The Katsina State Government has approved ₦20 million for each of the state’s 34 local government areas to renovate graveyards within their jurisdictions. Governor Dikko Radda announced the initiative on Thursday while hosting royal fathers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates at the Government House, Katsina.

Describing the project as both a social service and a spiritual duty, the governor said, “This is a service to our people and also a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for Katsina State.” He also unveiled a new welfare package for traditional rulers and religious leaders, supported by a law recently passed by the State House of Assembly. Under the reforms:

• All District Heads will now earn salaries of at least Grade Level 16.

• 6,652 Ward Heads across the state will receive monthly allowances.

• Over 3,000 Imams and their deputies in Friday Mosques will receive stipends.

• Izala and Darika Mosque sweepers in all 34 LGAs will also be supported with allowances.

Governor Radda reaffirmed his commitment to tackling insecurity, emphasizing it as the foremost priority of his administration. So far, over 1,500 youths have been trained and equipped with uniforms, life jackets, and operational tools to assist in security operations across troubled areas. “Security is a collective responsibility. Citizens must first help themselves before government intervention can yield lasting results,” he urged.

The initiative received backing from traditional authorities. The Emir of Daura, represented by the District Head of Baure, expressed solidarity with the governor, while Wazirin Katsina, Senator Ibrahim Ida, representing the Emir of Katsina, praised the reforms for restoring dignity to traditional institutions and enhancing their role in governance and community development. “The Emirate Council will continue to support the government through prayers and cooperation to promote peace, unity, and prosperity across the state,” Ida said.
