The minister explained that the scheme is an interest-free loan initiative designed for traders, and those who repay the loan will qualify for another one.

Edu elaborated that the government’s plan involves selecting one major market per senatorial district for the relaunch, totaling 109 markets. Traders will be registered within their shops in these markets.

She clarified, “Unlike the previous phases where traders received N10,000, the beneficiaries will now receive more money, specifically N50,000, to support their businesses.”

Edu also dismissed allegations that the scheme is politically motivated, emphasizing that the current government is committed to improving the lives of Nigerians.

She added, “Well, there are no elections currently. As we launch the Renewed Hope GEEP program, we are focused on serving Nigerians, not engaging in politics. Politics is behind us, and we are now concentrating on governance. That’s the essence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision.”
