President Bola Tinubu has greenlit the launch of the Consumer Credit Scheme, aimed at widening access to vital goods and services for Nigerians, enabling them to make key purchases on credit and repay gradually. This initiative, as reported by Naija News, is geared towards boosting economic activity and fostering social mobility nationwide, according to Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity.

Ngelale emphasized, “In accordance with the President’s vision to expand consumer credit access, the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) has initiated a platform for Nigerians to indicate interest in receiving consumer credit.”

He added, “President Tinubu is dedicated to ensuring that every diligent Nigerian has the chance to enhance their standard of living through structured financial mechanisms like the Consumer Credit Scheme.”

The scheme, to be managed by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), aims to establish a dependable credit score for every economically active Nigerian, thereby enhancing their access to consumer credit.

“This initiative serves as a catalyst for economic activity and is a cornerstone of our strategy for fostering sustainable economic growth,” Ngelale explained. “By facilitating major purchases such as housing, vehicles, education, and healthcare, the scheme is poised to significantly impact the national economy, boosting demand for goods and services, promoting job creation, and ultimately propelling local industry growth.”
