Abiodun made this assertion during a stakeholder meeting held at the Cultural Center, Kuto Abeokuta, in response to the prevailing economic difficulties in the country.

He attributed his confidence to an emergency meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu with the governors, where assurances were provided regarding the impending currency situation.

“The assurance we received from the President is quite promising, and it has become evident that there are elements attempting to undermine the economy, but their efforts will not prevail,” Abiodun remarked.

In response to the ongoing challenges, Abiodun announced measures to provide essential food items such as rice, garri, and beans to citizens. He revealed plans for the delivery of nearly 100 trailers of rice, with distribution set to commence the following day.

“To ensure equitable distribution, we have decided that the elderly and vulnerable will receive rice free of charge, while others will have the opportunity to purchase it at the pre-inflation prices. This initiative will be sustained until the currency issue is resolved,” Abiodun assured.

Additionally, Abiodun pledged to provide food palliatives, including rice and other essentials, to approximately 300,000 households across the state.

The governor also addressed financial commitments, stating, “The state government will begin offsetting the backlog of inherited deductions, with an immediate commitment of N500 million towards outstanding payments monthly.”

He further highlighted ongoing efforts to support civil servants, including the continued provision of a N10,000 transport allowance over the past eight months.

Abiodun reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing the citizens’ challenges while expressing appreciation for their resilience and understanding amidst the prevailing economic circumstances.
