Olayomi Koiki, Igboho’s spokesperson, confirmed this in a statement shared on his social media handle on Thursday, Feb. 22. Koiki also posted a video showing Igboho at what appears to be a mortuary.
According to Koiki, Igboho has come back to Nigeria to attend the funeral of his late mother.
In the statement, Koiki stated, “I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, aka Sunday Igboho, is currently en route to Igboho Town for the final burial of his mother, Mrs. S.A. Adeyemo.
“The body of Mrs. S.A. Adeyemo was retrieved from the mortuary in Saki Town just a few hours ago.”
It is worth recalling that Igboho has been absent from Nigeria since 2021 after being declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS). He was later apprehended by security forces in Benin Republic while attempting to escape to Germany approximately three weeks after the DSS declared him wanted for allegedly hoarding arms, an accusation he has consistently refuted.
However, in October 2023, following two years of legal proceedings in Benin, Igboho revealed that he had been granted permission by the Beninese government to depart from Cotonou to Nigeria and other nations.
