Governor Fubara Advises CTC Chairmen On Remote Work Flexibility

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that newly appointed caretaker committee chairmen in the state are authorized to work remotely, responding to reports that some chairmen were blocked by police from accessing council offices. The governor made this statement after swearing in 23 chairmen at the Port Harcourt government house on Wednesday, June 19.

Governor Fubara cautioned the chairmen against confronting security personnel now overseeing council secretariats, emphasizing his stance against violence. He urged them to avoid clashes and assured them of his support amidst recent incidents not attributed to them but to external instigators.

Highlighting their new responsibilities, he stressed that the caretaker chairmen now wield authority over their respective Local Government Areas. He also mentioned the temporary nature of their tenure, as the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) will soon initiate preparations for local government elections.

Earlier, the state police command had taken control of all LG council headquarters to prevent further violence following fatal incidents during clashes between supporters of Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, in Omuma Local Government Area on June 18.
