They assert that these attempts on the governor’s life are part of a scheme to depict the state as unsafe in the lead-up to the November 11 gubernatorial election.
In a press release titled ‘Assassination Attempt On The Governor’ and endorsed by the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, it was disclosed that the assailants, dressed in military attire, ambushed the governor’s convoy and indiscriminately opened fire on his vehicle and other vehicles within the convoy.
Fanwo explained that Governor Bello faced these attacks at three separate locations along the Lokoja-Abuja highway, with the final incident occurring in the Kwali Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) around 4.20pm on a Sunday evening.
He further revealed that the quick response of the governor’s security personnel thwarted the “sinister intentions of the unidentified individuals.”
“The Kogi State Government would like to inform the general public that an assassination attempt was made on the State’s Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, just a few kilometers away from Abuja while he was en route to an official engagement from Lokoja.”
