The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, officially confirmed on Monday the demise of a suspected armed robber after an exchange of gunfire with police operatives.

In a press release issued in Benin, Edafe stated, “In response to reports of house-to-house robberies in Asaba and other parts of the metropolitan area, CP Delta CP Abaniwonda Olufemi issued a stern directive to the area Commander and DPOs in the metro to intensify efforts against these criminals.

“Operatives from Delta Hawk, in collaboration with Policemen from Opkanam Division, promptly responded to a distress call regarding an armed robbery operation at Marble Hill Junction.

“Upon sighting the police, the armed robbers opened fire on the team, prompting a response during which one of the suspects sustained fatal injuries while others managed to escape.

“The injured suspect was rushed to the hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.”

Edafe assured the residents of Delta that the police would persist in their efforts to pursue criminals, ensuring that the community can rest with a sense of security.
