In a post shared on his Facebook page on Monday, Hamzat expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in him, pledging to continue contributing to the development of Lagos State.
Naija News earlier reported that Governor Sanwo-Olu formally endorsed his deputy during a closed-door meeting at Lagos House, Marina. At the meeting, Hamzat also informed members of the State Executive Council and key party stakeholders of his intention to contest the governorship election.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Sanwo-Olu said the decision had the backing of all stakeholders present.
“We just received Mr Deputy… to inform us of his intention to contest for the seat of the governorship position of the state,” he said.
The governor described Hamzat as competent and well-experienced, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the state.
In his response, Hamzat said the endorsement was a significant honour.
“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend, HE Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“His trust means a great deal to me. We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly.
“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together, and look forward to serving Lagosians with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose,” he wrote.
