Appearing on Arise Television, Suswam noted that the PDP must urgently address its leadership challenges and present a credible presidential candidate if it hopes to regain relevance ahead of the 2027 elections. He observed that many Nigerians, including key stakeholders, have lost confidence in the party due to a lack of direction.
“There are deep-rooted issues within the PDP that remain unresolved. As a result, many stakeholders have mentally checked out of the party, and this is largely due to failed leadership,” he stated.
Suswam also criticized the idea of awarding the party’s presidential ticket to the highest bidder, calling it a damaging practice.
He emphasized that a party with the PDP’s nationwide structure shouldn’t be struggling to win elections. According to him, two critical elements are needed to turn the tide for the party in 2027.
“First, we need transparent and credible leadership. Confidence in the PDP has eroded significantly because of poor leadership,” he said.
“Second, we must present a candidate who genuinely represents the people’s interests—not just someone who declares interest without the right credentials or commitment. Simply saying ‘I want to be president’ is no longer enough.”
