Isiaq Salako, Minister of State for Environment, emphasized that the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) is closely monitoring the situation. He acknowledged that while concerns are understandable, particularly in light of the experience with COVID-19, HMPV is not something that requires immediate panic.

Salako noted that HMPV has been present since 2001, and the accumulated community immunity over time, along with ongoing global monitoring, reduces the risk of widespread outbreaks similar to COVID-19. He highlighted that, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the infection rate in China is decreasing, and hospital admissions remain stable.

In conclusion, the government is urging vigilance without fear, maintaining that HMPV management is well within manageable limits.
