In the debate, Senator Bamidele highlighted the university’s potential to significantly improve agricultural education and promote tropical studies in Nigeria. Senator Olarere Oyewunmi supported the bill, emphasizing its importance for national development, especially in the agricultural sector.
The proposal garnered strong support from several notable senators, including Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and Senator Solomon Adeola, reflecting broad consensus on the urgent need to address educational and agricultural challenges in the region.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio conducted a voice vote, with senators overwhelmingly endorsing the bill’s swift progress through the legislative process. Subsequently, the bill was sent to the Senate Committees on Agriculture, Tertiary Education, and TETFUND for further examination.
