How Poor Maintenance, Unsafe practices Send Electricity Consumers To Early Graves....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Inadequate maintenance of essential electrical appliances by service providers and a lack of safety awareness among consumers have resulted in preventable fatalities and injuries, asserts Godfrey George.

In a harrowing incident on Bonny Island’s Macauley Road, a nine-year-old girl, Derigbelagha, found herself sprinting towards the local market in agonizing distress. The catalyst for her pain stemmed from a seemingly innocuous jest about enduring hot water, a conversation that tragically escalated.

Derigbelagha, now in her early twenties, reminisces about the events leading to her ordeal. Amidst sharing a meal with her elder brother, discussing her recent enrollment in secondary school, their mother requested boiling water using an electric heater, placing it atop the fridge for safety.

As the water simmered, Derigbelagha proposed a game to her brother, testing who could endure the hot water longer. Ignoring caution, she dipped her finger into the boiling liquid, only to be met with a jolt of electricity. Undeterred by the warning signs, she persisted, leading to a catastrophic outcome.

Recalling the incident, Derigbelagha vividly describes the searing pain as the scalding water cascaded over her arm. Despite her brother’s initial retreat, he eventually intervened, switching off the power source. Her escape from the kitchen resembled that of a panicked fugitive.

Fortunately, a family acquaintance intercepted Derigbelagha’s frantic flight, administering crucial first aid. Enduring months of treatment and undergoing surgery, she still bears the physical scars, her right hand forever altered.

Offering his perspective, Derigbelagha’s brother, God’swill, attests to her trembling state post-incident, emphasizing the severity of the shock she endured.

This poignant narrative underscores the grave consequences of neglecting electrical safety measures, urging both service providers and consumers alike to prioritize maintenance and vigilance to avert such tragic incidents.
