I Have Disgraced You — Ex-Muslim Lady Reveals Mother’s Emotional Reaction After Becoming Christian

Grace, a former Muslim, has recounted the emotional reaction she said she received from her mother after revealing that she had converted to Christianity.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Grace shared her experience in a Facebook post, describing the period as one of the most difficult moments of her life because she feared hurting her mother, whom she said had made significant sacrifices for the family.

Grace recalled that the incident occurred one morning when she and her siblings were expected to attend Quranic school. She said she initially refused to get out of bed when her siblings called her, prompting her mother to come and find out what was wrong.

She said she then gathered the courage to tell her mother that she no longer wanted to attend the mosque because she had become a Christian.

According to Grace, her mother appeared stunned and initially seemed unable to process what she had heard. She said her mother called another family member and asked Grace to repeat her statement.

Grace recalled that she eventually repeated that she had become a Christian, after which she said her mother began crying.

She further alleged that another family member became angry, pushed her against a wall and questioned why she wanted to bring shame and disgrace to the family.

Grace said watching her mother cry left her deeply hurt, adding that she also went away and cried over the situation.

She recalled that her mother later left the house with the youngest child, telling Grace that she had disgraced her. According to Grace, her siblings subsequently blamed her for their mother’s departure and accused her of tearing the family apart.

Grace said her mother eventually returned after one of her friends intervened and pleaded with her to come back.

Reflecting on the experience, she described those days as some of the most painful moments of her life but said her Christian faith remained unchanged.

She said that, with time, her relationship with her family improved, although she claimed that some members still hoped she would return to Islam.

Grace added that she continues to pray for her family and hopes they will eventually understand and accept her decision.

Sharing a message with Muslims who may be afraid of revealing a change in their faith to their families, Grace encouraged them to remain strong and exercise wisdom when discussing such deeply personal decisions.

She said her own experience had taught her how difficult such a situation could be, while expressing hope that her family would eventually come to understand her beliefs.
