Gabriel Jesus has opened up about his final days at Arsenal, revealing that he was unexpectedly separated from his teammates in training shortly before completing his £8.6 million move to Barcelona on transfer deadline day.

The Brazilian forward had been involved in Arsenal’s pre-season preparations but was left out of the squad for the club’s opening two Premier League matches as uncertainty surrounding his future continued to grow.

Speaking to SportyTV, Jesus said he had completed pre-season training normally with the Arsenal squad before suddenly being instructed to train away from the group. According to Bush Radio Academy, the 29-year-old claimed he already suspected that his opportunities at the club would be limited, but said nobody informed him that he would be separated from his teammates.

Jesus explained that despite the situation, he remained professional and continued working hard in preparation for any opportunity that might come his way. He said the situation changed rapidly during the final week of the transfer window when negotiations with Barcelona accelerated.

The former Manchester City forward revealed that discussions involving Barcelona sporting director Deco, club president Joan Laporta and his representatives helped complete the transfer quickly. He said he immediately accepted the opportunity to join the Catalan giants and expressed his happiness at beginning a new chapter at the club.

Jesus joined Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and went on to make 123 appearances for the Gunners, scoring 32 goals and providing 22 assists. His time in north London was interrupted by injuries, including a serious knee problem that kept him out for a significant period.

Despite his departure, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta paid tribute to the Brazilian, praising the influence he had on the club after arriving from Manchester City. Arteta described Jesus as an important contributor to the change in the team’s energy and mentality during his time at Arsenal.

Jesus ultimately completed his move to Barcelona for a reported £8.6 million, bringing his four-year spell with Arsenal to an end. He has since begun life at the Spanish club, where he is looking to revive his career and establish himself as an important part of Hansi Flick’s squad. Sky Sports reported that the Brazilian signed a contract with Barcelona running until June 2029.
