Transfer Boost: Fulham Prepare New Contract for Super Eagles Star Calvin Bassey

Fulham are reportedly preparing to offer Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey a new long-term contract as the Premier League club moves to secure the Nigerian’s future at Craven Cottage.

Bassey currently has one year remaining on his existing Fulham contract, which is due to expire in the summer of 2027. However, the London club have an option to extend the agreement by another 12 months, potentially keeping the 26-year-old at Fulham until June 2028.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Fulham are keen to reward Bassey with improved terms after the Nigerian international established himself as an important figure in the club’s defence. Reports indicate that the Cottagers are not under immediate pressure because of the extension clause, but would prefer to secure a fresh long-term agreement.

Bassey joined Fulham from Dutch giants Ajax in July 2023 and has gradually become a key member of the squad. The versatile defender, who can operate at both centre-back and left-back, was named the club’s Player of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign.

His performances have also seen him remain an important part of the team under new manager Álvaro Arbeloa. Bassey has continued to feature regularly for the London club this season, further underlining his importance to Fulham’s defensive plans.

Since arriving at Craven Cottage, the Nigerian has made 105 appearances across all competitions, demonstrating his consistency and value to the team. His versatility, physical strength and ability to recover quickly have made him a dependable option in defence.

Bassey’s importance at club level has also strengthened his position with the Super Eagles, where he remains one of Nigeria’s key defensive options. Meanwhile, reports of interest from Italian giants Inter Milan have added further significance to Fulham’s desire to secure his future, although the club currently hold a strong position because of the existing extension option.
