Ijaw Youths Stand Firm Against Detractors Of Amnesty Programme LeadershipIjaw Youths, operating under the Ijaw Youths Network (IYN), have issued a warning to detractors threatened by the rising influence of Dr. Dennis Otuaro, the Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP). In a statement released on Wednesday by IYN President Frank Ebikabo and Secretary Federal Ebiaridor, the organization expressed concern over persistent attacks on Otuaro by individuals who do not have the region’s best interests at heart. They urged Otuaro to disregard those they described as paid agents attempting to undermine his efforts to revitalize the PAP in the Niger Delta.
The IYN dismissed attempts to link a purportedly leaked document from the Department of State Services (DSS) to Otuaro as a baseless distraction. They emphasized that the PAP is independent of the DSS, which is known for its thoroughness in investigating any potential wrongdoing.
The group condemned what they termed a conspiracy against Otuaro by anonymous individuals motivated by greed, masquerading as public concern. They praised Otuaro’s initiatives since his appointment in March 2024, affirming that President Bola Tinubu made the right choice by appointing someone with deep grassroots connections.
The IYN urged those accustomed to extorting funds from the PAP through blackmail to cease their activities. They commended Otuaro for his productive engagements with various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, women’s and youth groups, and former agitators.
They reiterated their support for Otuaro’s plans to effectively utilize resources, especially in enhancing the PAP scholarship scheme for the region. The IYN emphasized the importance of Otuaro maintaining focus and striving for impactful change in the Niger Delta, stating that failure is not an option.
Finally, they highlighted that 21 prominent groups in the region have recently voiced their support for Otuaro, demonstrating that he is on the right path. They also called on all Ijaw youths to denounce the attempts of certain individuals to unjustly involve High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, known as Tompolo, in these unfounded controversies.
