Ajaero, who visited Owerri to rally workers for a protest regarding unpaid salaries in Imo State, was reportedly kidnapped and subjected to police brutality.

The NLC and TUC leadership issued a five-day ultimatum to the federal government for the removal of the police boss due to his alleged involvement in the attack.

The Labour Party, echoing the call for the police commissioner’s removal, emphasized the need for a reorganization of the police structure in Imo State.

The party’s statement underscores the demand for the immediate reassignment of the Commissioner of Police, the Area Commander, and other officials believed to be connected to the mistreatment of Comrade Ajaero and fellow workers.

The statement also points out that the Labour Party had previously petitioned the Chairman of the Police Service Commission concerning the prolonged tenure and actions of the current Commissioner of Police in Imo State, who had previously served as the head of the Adamawa State Police Command. Despite the Commission’s directive for the CP’s immediate reassignment, he has reportedly defied the order.

The Labour Party calls upon the police hierarchy to promptly overhaul the entire police structure in Imo State, citing the police’s unfavorable role in the attack on labor union leaders as evidence of misconduct and potential manipulation by certain individuals within the police force.
