The late General was seized along Bishops Court, Area 7 Orji/Uratta Owerri, with his black Mercedes Benz G.L. 450 car, bearing registration number LND 826 NG, forcibly taken by the assailants on September 27, 2023.

Following the ransom payment of $50,000 by the victim’s family, the culprits callously ended the General’s life, sparking fear and unease among residents of the State.

Addressing reporters, ASP Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the state police command, revealed that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, under the leadership of CSP Oladimeji Odeyeyiwa, swiftly initiated a rigorous manhunt for the criminal syndicate. This relentless pursuit, fueled by gathered intelligence, led to the apprehension of the gang leader and other members.

One of the suspects, Chukwunonso Emmanuel, hailing from Uke in Idemili North L.G.A Anambra State, was nabbed in Lagos while attempting to re-register the victim’s Mercedes Benz. His disclosures facilitated the arrest of two accomplices, Okoroigwe Goodness (24) and Innocent Ogu (54), both admitting to the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Retired Major General Richard Duru. Additionally, they confessed to their affiliation with the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) /Eastern Security Network (ESN).
