Imo State Police Apprehend Alleged ESN Syndicate Operative Linked To Sit-At-Home Enforcement And Officer Murders

The Imo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough by apprehending a suspected member of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the militant arm linked to the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Identified as Chidebere Nwuzor, aged 38 from Amauzu in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area, the individual is allegedly connected to the November 2023 incident resulting in the tragic deaths of a Divisional Police Officer and an Inspector of Police.

Reportedly operating as the driver during the incident, the suspect was captured after a fierce gun battle at their hideout in Amauze, within the Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area. Chidebere Nwuzor sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg, leading to his surrender.

The Command spokesperson, Henry Okoye, disclosed that the arrest on April 8 was the result of actionable intelligence gathered by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The suspect, who has been on the wanted list for various terrorist activities in the state, was found with weapons including a pump-action gun, a Barrera Pistol, and ammunition.

During interrogation, Nwuzor confessed to being part of the IPOB/ESN syndicate enforcing sit-at-home orders and perpetrating violence in the state. He admitted to driving the vehicle used in the attack resulting in the deaths of the police officers in November 2023. The suspect is cooperating with investigations, providing valuable information to aid in the arrest of other suspects.

The successful operation underscores the commitment of the Imo State Police Command to combat violent crimes in the state. Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, commended the operatives for their bravery and assured the people of Imo State of the Command’s continued efforts to apprehend criminals.

This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts to dismantle the activities of IPOB/ESN in Imo State, reinforcing the resolve of law enforcement to maintain peace and security.
