NSCDC Commandant Olatunde Maku announced on Thursday that Chukwugozirim, a 39-year-old from Nnobi in Idemili North Local Government Area, was arrested on Tuesday in Awka during a routine patrol.

Maku explained that Chukwugozirim was spotted on August 6 at Kwata Junction in Awka exhibiting unusual behavior while posing as a military officer, which led to his apprehension by NSCDC operatives.

“Upon his arrest, Chukwugozirim claimed to be a naval rating. We contacted the Naval Base in Onitsha for verification, and it was confirmed that he was not affiliated with the Nigerian Navy,” Maku said.

A search of the suspect’s home uncovered various military items, including a walkie-talkie, black beret, belt, blue combat uniform, lanyard, camouflage top, machete, white naval shirt, and blue beret.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Chukwugozirim had been masquerading as a naval officer, deceiving civilians and committing various crimes. Maku has instructed the Intelligence and Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend any accomplices.

The suspect will face charges following the completion of the investigation.
