The meeting, which also included Force PRO Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Femi Falana SAN, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa SAN, and other civil society leaders, was convened by the IGP in response to a letter from Adegboruwa on behalf of the Take It Back Movement.

Inibehe stated on his X handle, “When I had the chance to speak, I specifically asked the IGP if he was aware of the viral video showing thugs in Lagos threatening violence against protesters and warning people not to participate in the protest. I also inquired whether he would instruct the Lagos State Commissioner of Police to arrest these thugs to prevent further unrest. Unfortunately, the IGP did not address this question, even after it was reiterated by other participants.”

During the meeting, Inibehe noted that Egbetokun assured that the police would not use force against peaceful protesters. However, the IGP suggested that protests should be confined to specific venues for adequate police protection. Egbetokun warned that protesters moving outside these designated areas might not be protected by the police.

Inibehe also questioned the IGP about whether police would disrupt protests held outside the approved locations. Egbetokun responded that while there were no plans to disrupt such rallies, the police could not guarantee the safety of protesters who were not within the designated areas.
