Anakwenze cautioned that the PDP risks losing its remaining strongholds if Atiku Abubakar is fielded as the party’s presidential flagbearer in 2027.
Speaking during an interview in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, he attributed the party’s persistent challenges to figures like Atiku, accusing them of stalling the PDP’s progress.
“I am a member of the PDP. The party’s problems stem from individuals like Atiku who are more focused on personal ambition than the party’s success. He is one of those holding it down,” Anakwenze stated.
He stressed the urgent need for leaders who are fundamentally different—visionary individuals who can drive meaningful change. Expressing frustration over Nigeria’s lack of development despite its vast resources, he said, “The brightest minds in this country have never been allowed to lead, and that’s why we keep falling behind.”
Anakwenze also condemned the dominance of ethnic and religious politics, lamenting that the corridors of power are filled with people who should be held accountable—not celebrated. “In Nigeria, it’s often those who should be in jail that are calling the shots,” he remarked.
Recently appointed as the Regent of Abagana following the death of His Royal Highness Igwe Patrick Mbamalu Okeke, Anakwenze received his regency certificate from the Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Community Affairs.
Expressing his gratitude, he stated: “I am honoured to take up this new role. The people of Abagana have entrusted me with the responsibility of leading for six months, and I pledge to usher in significant change, particularly by involving more young people in the traditional leadership structure.”
