IPOB Disowns Simon Ekpa! – Distances Movement From ‘Biafra Government In Exile’ Drama
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has firmly distanced itself from the so-called “Biafra Government in Exile” allegedly led by self-styled Finland-based agitator, Simon Ekpa, who is currently facing terrorism-related charges in a Finnish court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, IPOB condemned the “government in exile” initiative as the fabrication of mischief-makers who do not represent the movement’s values or objectives.
The group rejected any affiliation with the said government, describing it as an illegitimate and criminal venture. IPOB emphasized that it neither supports nor acknowledges the body, and would never associate itself with such fraudulent activities.
Citing the principles laid down by its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, IPOB criticized the laughable formation of a government allegedly declared in a barbershop, saying such a move undermines the struggle and insults the will of the people.
According to IPOB, the individual promoting the so-called government lacks both discipline and ideological direction. They warned that Biafra’s liberation is not a game for opportunists or those who extort their own people under the guise of activism.
The statement read in part:
“The attention of IPOB, under the supreme leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has been drawn to a disgraceful narrative being pushed by certain cowards posing as freedom fighters from the safety of foreign lands. These individuals are intellectually bankrupt and seek to compare themselves with our leader—who has endured illegal abduction, torture, solitary confinement, and years of political persecution.
“Any attempt to equate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu with a YouTube content creator who once publicly denied Biafra in court is not only delusional but offensive. Kanu made it clear: no Biafran should declare a government in exile, form an army, print currency or passports, or create ID cards outside legitimate channels. The Helsinki-based impostor violated all these principles.”
IPOB stressed that Biafra is not a digital show or a tool for personal gain. They slammed the idea of launching a “government” in a Helsinki barbershop without the people’s mandate as a mockery of the struggle for self-determination.
The group also noted that despite the Nigerian government’s multiple failed attempts to press valid charges against Mazi Kanu—confirmed by the Kenyan court’s ruling on his illegal abduction—he remains resolute and committed to the cause.
“We reiterate: IPOB has no ties with the so-called Biafra Government in Exile. We do not recognize or support it. We reject violence, extortion, and criminal racketeering in Biafra’s name.
“When the time is right, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu will speak again—and the truth will expose those sabotaging the movement from within. Biafra is not a hustle. It is not for cowards. And it is not content for social media clicks.”
